Changes in prices, population and the composition of regional output can produce a different movement in nominal GRDP per capita.<\/p>\n<p>The province&#8217;s total current-price GRDP reached IDR 889.07 trillion, according to the same BPS release.<\/p>\n<p>For companies serving the energy and resource industries, East Kalimantan warrants a closer look at operating facilities, contractors and procurement arrangements.<\/p>\n<p>A business selling machinery or maintenance services, for example, would need to know which companies operate locally and which purchases their headquarters handle elsewhere.<\/p>\n<h3>North Kalimantan<\/h3>\n<p>North Kalimantan followed at IDR 208.210 million per capita.<\/p>\n<p>BPS&#8217;s provincial releases round the figures to IDR 208.33 million for East Kalimantan and IDR 208.21 million for North Kalimantan.<\/p>\n<p>Table 3 shows a gap of exactly IDR 121,000 per resident using its published precision. You can then assess where your sales team, warehouse and registered business address would need to be.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Riau and the Riau Islands: Similar Rankings, Different Location Questions<\/h2>\n<p>Riau and the Riau Islands ranked fourth and fifth in 2025, recording IDR 176.385 million and IDR 172.459 million per capita respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Their positions are close enough to place both provinces on an initial research shortlist. Choosing between them requires a closer examination of the business activity.<\/p>\n<p>Investors should compare industry-level GRDP and investigate the industrial, resource-related, maritime or logistics sites relevant to their operations.<\/p>\n<p>For a company considering Batam, for example, factory availability, proximity to suppliers and the cost of shipping to customers may carry more weight than the province&#8217;s average economic output.<\/p>\n<p>Bank Indonesia&#8217;s February 2026 report on the Riau Islands provides additional economic context for reviewing the province&#8217;s industrial activity.<\/p>\n<p>Provincial output alone cannot establish supplier demand, achievable margins or the cost of operating in a particular industrial estate.<\/p>\n<h2>North Maluku and Central Sulawesi: Manufacturing Behind the Numbers<\/h2>\n<p>North Maluku and Central Sulawesi provide useful examples of why investors should read sector-level statistics alongside the provincial ranking.<\/p>\n<h3>North Maluku&#8217;s Manufacturing Growth<\/h3>\n<p>North Maluku moved from IDR 71.517 million in GRDP per capita in 2024 to IDR 97.262 million in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>In its February 5, 2026 release, BPS North Maluku reported full-year 2025 real economic growth of <strong>34.17%<\/strong>, measured from one calendar year to the next.<\/p>\n<p>Manufacturing grew 62.64% over the same full-year period.<\/p>\n<p>The release separately reports 29.81% year-on-year growth for the fourth quarter and 50.93% manufacturing growth for that quarter. Those quarterly figures describe a different comparison period.<\/p>\n<p>For a company providing industrial equipment, maintenance or logistics services, the province&#8217;s manufacturing expansion offers a reason to investigate potential customers.<\/p>\n<p>You would still need to identify operating companies, their purchasing requirements and the practical cost of serving their facilities.<\/p>\n<h3>Central Sulawesi&#8217;s Industrial Economy<\/h3>\n<p>Central Sulawesi ranked seventh in 2025, with GRDP per capita of IDR 131.643 million.<\/p>\n<p>BPS Central Sulawesi reported 8.47% real economic growth for the year. Manufacturing grew 14.12% over the same period.<\/p>\n<p>Manufacturing accounted for <strong>41.24% of Central Sulawesi&#8217;s 2025 current-price GRDP<\/strong>, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/sulteng.bps.go.id\/id\/news\/2026\/02\/05\/466\/siaran-pers-rilis-berita-resmi-statistik-5-februari-2026.html\">BPS Central Sulawesi&#8217;s February 5, 2026 statistical news<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The distinction between those figures matters. The 14.12% figure measures the sector&#8217;s real annual growth, while 41.24% measures its share of the province&#8217;s nominal economy.<\/p>\n<p>That industry share is a reason to research potential industrial customers. It does not establish a particular level of sales or profit for maintenance, engineering or logistics suppliers.<\/p>\n<h2>Central Papua Shows the Risk of Relying on GDP per Capita Alone<\/h2>\n<p>Central Papua ranked eighth in 2025, with GRDP per capita of IDR 107.566 million. Its economic performance looks different when mining is separated from the rest of the province.<\/p>\n<p>BPS Papua reported that Central Papua&#8217;s economy contracted by <strong>21.80% in real terms during 2025<\/strong> when mining and quarrying were included.<\/p>\n<p>When mining and quarrying are excluded from the GRDP calculation, Central Papua&#8217;s remaining economic activities grew 3.16% in real terms over the same year.<\/p>\n<p>The two figures describe different sectoral coverage. The 3.16% measure does not represent household-income growth, nor does it establish that mining had no indirect effects on other activities.<\/p>\n<p>Central Papua&#8217;s nominal GRDP per capita also decreased from IDR 118.774 million in 2024 to IDR 107.566 million in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>For a business serving resource-dependent customers, these figures raise a practical question: how exposed would your revenue be to changes in production at major industrial or mining sites?<\/p>\n<p>Before committing to a location, investigate the customer contracts, purchasing cycles and alternative sources of demand available to your company.<\/p>\n<h2>Can GRDP per Capita Identify Indonesia&#8217;s Wealthiest Consumers?<\/h2>\n<p>GRDP per capita is a measure of regional economic output divided by the province&#8217;s population. It does not measure the average resident&#8217;s disposable income.<\/p>\n<p>Three features of regional economies help explain the difference.<\/p>\n<h3>Production and Household Income Are Different Measures<\/h3>\n<p>A company can generate substantial output in a province while distributing profits to shareholders elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>A mine, factory or corporate headquarters may therefore contribute significant value to regional GRDP without generating an equivalent amount of spending by nearby households.<\/p>\n<p>The OECD also distinguishes regional GDP per capita from household-income measures in its work on regional economic conditions and well-being.<\/p>\n<h3>Commuters Contribute to Output Outside Their Home Province<\/h3>\n<p>Workers may live in one province and contribute to production in another.<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta&#8217;s economic output includes activity by people who commute into the capital.
